Knocked Out Tooth · Same Day Emergency

A Knocked Out Tooth Can Often Be Saved. The Clock Matters.

Pick it up by the white crown, never the root. Keep it moist in milk. Then call us on your way in. Putting the tooth back works best inside the first hour, so do not wait.

The First 60 Minutes

Do this first

The First 60 Minutes

Find the tooth and hold it correctly

Pick it up by the white crown. Do not touch the root, and do not pick off any tissue attached to it.

Rinse it gently for a few seconds

Use milk or saline for a quick rinse only. Scrubbing it or drying it damages the cells that help it reattach.

Place it back in the socket

Slot it back the way it came out and bite softly on a clean cloth to hold it there. A tooth back in place keeps best.

Keep it in cold milk

Milk is the right choice. Saline or holding it inside your cheek also works. Plain water is the wrong choice and harms the tooth.

Call (647) 800-0318 so we are ready

Tell us what happened and we will prepare for you. The sooner you arrive, the better the odds we can save it.

How to carry the tooth

Keep It Alive on the Way In

If you cannot find the tooth, come in anyway. We can manage the pain, protect the socket, and plan a replacement.

When you arrive

Putting the Tooth Back, and Holding It There

We clean the tooth and the socket, ease it back into place, and check the position with an X ray. A small splint bonded to the neighbouring teeth holds it steady while the ligament reattaches, usually for a couple of weeks. We test the nerve and tell you what to expect, because some reimplanted teeth need emergency root canal therapy a little later.

If the tooth cannot be saved, there is no need to panic. We will talk you through replacement options such as implants and bridges on our knocked out tooth reattachment page, so you can restore your smile when you are ready.

Call Before You Leave the House

A tooth that is put back has the best chance inside the first hour. We hold same day emergency slots every day we are open, and we will be ready the moment you walk in. The fastest thing you can do right now is call.

Cost should never make you wait

You will know the cost before we treat. We bill most insurers directly, accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan and refugee coverage through IFHP. Saving your tooth always comes first.

Knocked Out Tooth Questions People Ask

Honest answers

Often, yes, especially if you act fast. An adult tooth that is kept moist and put back within the first hour has the best chance. Hold it by the crown, keep it in milk, and call us right away at (647) 800-0318.

The first hour matters most. The sooner the tooth is back in place, the better the odds it reattaches. If more time has passed, still come in, because we can often help and can plan a replacement if needed.

Cold milk is best. Saline or holding it gently inside your cheek also works. Never use plain tap water and never let it dry out, as this damages the cells that help it reattach.

No. A baby tooth should not be reinserted, as it can harm the adult tooth developing underneath. Bring your child in so we can check the area and ease any pain. For an adult tooth, do try to place it back.

A dentist is the right place for a knocked out tooth. A hospital ER can manage pain or a serious injury, but only a dentist can reattach the tooth, so call us first so we are ready for you.

You will know the cost before we treat. We bill most insurers directly and accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan and refugee coverage through IFHP. Saving your tooth always comes first.

Yes. Our team speaks both Farsi and English, so you can explain what is wrong in the language you are most comfortable with.
