Pearl Dental Group Accepts NIHB Dental Benefits
At Pearl Dental Group on Finch Avenue West, we welcome patients using their NIHB dental benefits. As a registered provider, we bill the program directly, so you show your client identification and we handle the rest. Led by Dr. Ebrahim Aminsalehi, our team cares for First Nations and Inuit families across North York with respect and no upfront cost for covered care.
What Is NIHB Dental Coverage and Who Is Eligible?
The Non-Insured Health Benefits program is a federal program that covers dental care for registered First Nations and recognized Inuit. It pays for medically necessary treatment that other plans do not cover. There is no application to fill out. If you are eligible, your coverage is already active, and you simply bring your client ID to your appointment. Children under two whose parent qualifies are covered as well.
NIHB Eligibility
Registered First Nations and recognized Inuit clients may qualify for medically necessary dental care.
What Dental Services Does NIHB Cover?
NIHB dental coverage is broad and follows the official NIHB dental fee guide. Covered care includes:
Not covered:Â cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers, and orthodontics except in limited cases. If you are unsure what applies to you, we will check your coverage before any treatment begins.

- Bring your NIHB client identification to your visit.
- We check your coverage and explain any treatment you need.
- We submit your claim to NIHB through Express Scripts Canada using the Dent-29 form.

When Does NIHB Dental Treatment Require Predetermination?
Most everyday care, such as exams, cleanings, fillings, and standard root canals, is covered right away with no prior approval. Some treatments need predetermination, which means NIHB approves them before they begin. This usually applies to major work like crowns and dentures, surgical extractions, sedation, and orthodontics. We handle the predetermination request for you and tell you the decision before any treatment starts.

ThanksPosted on Google Pouya Ahmadi GharejlooTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had an excellent experience at Pearl Dental Group! Dr. Pouria is an outstanding dentist—professional, knowledgeable, incredibly kind, and always welcoming. He takes the time to explain every step of the treatment and makes every visit comfortable and stress-free. The other dentists are also fantastic, and the entire team is amazing. The dental assistants and the front desk staff are always friendly, respectful, and very organized. Their customer service is exceptional, and they truly care about their patients. Another huge benefit is that they accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), making quality dental care much more accessible. I highly recommend Pearl Dental Group to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring dental clinic. I’m so happy I found my dentist here and couldn’t be more satisfied with the care I’ve received!
Frequently Asked Questions About NIHB Dental Coverage
Does Pearl Dental Group Accept NIHB?
Yes. We are a registered NIHB dental provider in North York, and we bill the program directly, so you do not pay upfront for covered care.
What Should I Bring to My NIHB Dental Appointment?
Bring your NIHB client identification, such as your status card or Inuit enrolment number, along with any other insurance details. That is all we need to verify your coverage.
Does NIHB Cover the Full Cost of Dental Treatment?
For most covered services, yes, with no deductible and no co-payment. A few treatments have frequency limits or need predetermination, and we will always tell you what is covered before we begin.
Does NIHB Cover Braces or Orthodontic Treatment?
NIHB covers orthodontics only in severe cases where the bite causes a medical problem, and it always needs prior approval. We do not provide braces or Invisalign at our clinic, so we would refer you to an orthodontist if that is the right step for you.
Does NIHB Cover Dental Implants or Cosmetic Treatments?
Dental implants are generally not covered, and cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers are not covered. Dentures and bridges are covered alternatives for replacing missing teeth.
Does NIHB Cover Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Yes. Surgical extractions, including wisdom teeth, are covered, though some may need predetermination first. We will arrange that for you.
Can NIHB Be Used With Private Insurance or CDCP?
If you have private insurance, that is billed first and NIHB covers the rest. NIHB and the CDCP are separate programs, and most people use one or the other. We will check which one applies to you.
Can I Use NIHB for Emergency Dental Care?
Yes. NIHB covers emergency exams and urgent treatment, and we keep same day appointments open for patients in pain.
